          Alfred Eisenstaedt was born in Dirschau, West Prussia (now Tczew, Poland) in 1898.

          His family relocated to Berlin in 1906. During his service in World War I, Eisenstaedt was wounded, but he returned to his passion for photography upon his recovery.

          He had always taken photographs, even as a teenager with his first Kodak camera.

          However, when Eisenstaedt received his first payment for a photograph in the late 1920s, he was astonished since he had never considered his hobby as a potential source of income.

          By the early 1930s, Eisenstaedt had established himself as a renowned photographer.
