Herman Wouk (/woʊk/ WOHK; May 27, 1915 – May 17, 2019) was an American author best known for historical fiction.
The Caine Mutiny (1951) made Wouk an international success, winning the Pulitzer Prize in fiction. It was made into a major motion picture starring Humphrey Bogart as Captain Queeg that was released in 1954. The film received seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor.
